NCM Omega Max Thermoplastic Splinting Material

Whether you run a busy clinic or deal with patients suffering from spasticity, quick and reliable splinting is always beneficial. The NCM Omega Max Thermoplastic Splinting Material is the ideal choice, as it features the drape and conformability of plastic-like materials while resisting stretch and fingerprints, and has a fast setup time of only three to four minutes.

The Omega Max Splinting Material is available in multiple sizes, quantities, perforations and thicknesses. Choose your desired options using the drop-down menus above.

What Can Omega Max Thermoplastic Splinting Material Be Used For?

Omega Max Material is highly versatile, and each thickness can be used for a variety of splinting purposes. These are:

3.2mm Thickness

  • Hand or wrist splints
  • Back supports
  • Anti-spasticity splints
  • Lower extremity positioning splints
  • Serial static splints
  • Bases for dynamic splints

2.4mm Thickness

  • Lightweight hand or wrist splints
  • Dynamic splint bases (due to superior rigidity)
  • Paediatric splints (will hold against strong hypertonicity)

How Resistant Is the Omega Max Material?

This splinting material makes the fitting process as easy as possible, as it features moderate resistance to stretch and handling. Even aggressive handling is tolerated by this material, allowing it to gain the perfect shape with minimal effort.

What is the Benefit of the Perforated Material?

This material is available in either Smooth or Perforated 1% versions. The Perforated 1% version is ideal for treatment of conditions where ventilation of the skin may be necessary, or to enhance patient comfort and compliance. The image below shows the level of perforation of the Perforated 1% material as compared to the Smooth version.

Will This Splinting Material Provide a Close Fit?

With all splinting, ending up with a close and contoured fit is best for both effective use and patient comfort. The Omega Max Splinting Material provides maximum drape in the splinting process, creating a close and conforming fit to the patient. It provides excellent reproduction of detail, making it ideal for splinting a variety of areas.

Is Omega Max Thermoplastic Material Suitable for Serial Splinting?

Unlike other materials, Omega Max Thermoplastic Material features 100% memory, meaning that it will always recover its exact original cut, shape and size when reheated. This makes Omega Max incredibly consistent, and ensures it's an ideal choice for serial splinting.

How Rigid Is Omega Max Splinting Material?

Omega Max Thermoplastic Splinting Material is designed to provide moderate to maximum rigidity. This is ideal for situations where rigid immobilisation is required, and allows the splint to provide excellent support to the patient.

How Does Omega Max Perform During the Bonding Process?

Designed with a unique and intuitive power coating, Omega Max Material has a slightly tacky feel, allowing it to hold itself in place during splinting without falling away or pulling. A wet bond will hold firmly when needed, but can be pulled apart when cooled. To form a strong and permanent bond, minimal solvent and dry heat is required.

Will Omega Max Splinting Material Stick to Itself?

It may occur that this splinting material accidentally adheres to itself while wet, but it will not create a permanent bond. To separate the material from itself, simply place in warm water and gently pull apart, or allow it to cool fully and then pull apart.

Does Omega Max Material Create a Smooth Finish?

Yes, this splinting material creates a smooth, glossy finish that makes a highly professional-looking orthosis. When the material cools, fingerprints, surface marks and other imperfections will disappear, ensuring perfect results every time.

Does Omega Max Remain Smooth If Cut?

Yes, as long as Omega Max Splinting Material is cut while warm, it will remain smooth. Cuts while warm will result in smooth and sealed edges.

Is Omega Max Material Suitable for Paediatric Splinting?

Yes, the 2.4mm thickness is particularly suited to paediatric splinting. This thickness has excellent conformability, ideal for children's limbs, and will hold against strong hypertonicity.

How Quick Is Setup for Omega Max Material?

Omega Max is some of the fastest-setting splinting material available with this strength, and will harden in roughly three to four minutes. Allow the 3.2mm material roughly three minutes for forming and hardening after softening in 60 - 65°C (140 - 150°C) water. This fast setup time makes it ideal for busy clinics and patients who will benefit from minimal handling time.

Does Omega Max Splinting Material Contain Latex?

No, Omega Max Thermoplastic Material does not contain latex. This means it can be used for almost all patients, as it will be suitable for those with latex allergies.

How Long Will Omega Max Material Take for Delivery?

Since Omega Max Splinting Material is made to order, it may take up to 21 days for dispatch from the point of your order.

Thermoplastic material perforated for making a splint
Rating:
23 July 2020  |

It was just what I wanted. I cut it to size with strong scissors then submerged it in very hot water to make it pliable. I moved it easily into position around my wrist and hand until it hardened. I used duck tape around the edges and it works perfectly an is very comfortable. It was easy to replace back into the hot water when the position wasn’t quite perfect and redo.
Very happy
Thank you
