How Does the BioSkin TriLok Support Provide Support?

The TriLok Support is a comprehensive brace that is designed to provide support to multiple areas of the ankle, arch and midfoot. Coming complete with twin straps that can be independently fitted, the BioSkin TriLok bolsters the heel and arch by pulling weak and fatigued ligaments and tendons in toward the centre of the foot for bolstered strength and stability.

What The Experts Say

We spoke to product experts at Beagle Orthotics for more details about the Bioskin TriLok Ankle Brace. Here's what they shared with us:

"The TriLok Ankle Brace is a slim fit design consisting of 3 components; TriLok Undersleeve, Stirrup strap and FootLokTM strap, which mimics the natural tendons in the foot to secure the ankle and allow for a safe range of motion. The TriLok is an easy, effective way to relieve the debilitating pain caused by plantar fasciitis and PTTD and also provides unrivalled protection."

How Do I Correctly Fit My TriLok Support?

The TriLok Ankle Brace offers incredible support and compression at the ankle, heel and foot when fitted correctly. Fitting is done in three stages, all of which are detailed below.

Undersleeve Fitting

The undersleeve is designed to prevent chaffing, rubbing and irritation. Simply slip the sleeve over your foot and fasten down using the two straps located in the ankle area.

Fitting Your BioSkin Undersleeve

FootLok Strap

We recommend taking some time when fitting the "FootLok" strap. Attach and circle the white strap over the centre of the foot before fastening it down at the point detailed in image F.

The "FootLok strap" circles the arch, providing arch support and relief from plantar fasciitis.

Fitting Your BioSkin FootLok Strap

Stirrup Strap

The stirrup strap is the final section. This strap loops around the heel and underneath the foot to bolster support underneath, at the back and across the top of the foot.

Fitting Your Stirrup Strap

How Will It Increase the Rate of Recovery?

The BioSkin TriLok Ankle Support will increase the rate of recovery because it controls the inversion and eversion of the ankle, while using a special strap that simulates an external ligament. This helps to take the pressure of your ankle ligaments meaning that your ankle has the space and time that it needs to recover.

Will it Reduce Pain in My Foot and Ankle?

Users have reported feeling a decreased level of pain once their ankle has got used to living with the BioSkin Support. This is because all of the pressure of walking, jumping and running has been taken from your ankle and onto the brace, allowing the pain to be significantly reduced.

In fact the BioSkin TriLok Support has given users with long term ankle problems significant pain relief, while those post surgery can quickly get back on their feet again.

Can I Wear the TriLok Brace on Either Ankle?

Absolutely. The BioSkin TriLok Ankle Support is an ambidextrous brace that can be worn on either ankle to alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with either inward or outward rolling of the ankle.

The application method remains the same and does not change depending on which side you wear your brace on.

How Does the BioSkin TriLok Ankle Support Work?

The way the BioSkin TriLok works is quite complex, but its goal is to create another ligament so that pressure is taken away from your ankle and on to your feet. Its patented FootLok strap serves this purpose, controlling the movement of the forefoot without compromising on the range of your foot. By keeping your ankle protected and well positioned, you can run, walk and jump safe in the knowledge that your ankle is well on its way to recovery.

How Do I Fit the TriLok Ankle Support?

Depending on the place of your injury you fit the Ankle Support slightly differently. The two different types of positioning for the brace are lateral (the side of the body that is away from the middle), and the medial (the side of the body that is away from the body). Please note that the brace shouldn't be fit too tightly as this can lead to discomfort.

Can I Wear the Ankle Ligaments Support with Socks and Shoes?

We recommend that you wear the TriLok Ankle Support with socks as this can relieve discomfort on your skin. Once you've fitted the Ankle Support you should be able to wear shoes quite comfortably over the top of the Ankle Brace with the top of it circulating your ankle.

How Comfortable is the Ankle Ligament Support to Wear?

Although your ankle can take a little while to get used to the support, once fit properly it will provide excellent pain relief to both minor and major injuries. It is ergonomically designed to fit around the foot and ensure a high level of comfort, suitable for all day use.

BioSkin TriLok Ankle Brace

The BioSkin Support is designed to give a compressed fit that allows for full support, which for some wearers this may feel strange or uncomfortable at first. If you find yourself between sizes it is recommended that you select the larger size unless you desire a tighter fit. Furthermore it is recommended that you don't strap your support too tight as this can lead to discomfort.

Will I Retain Dexterity in My Foot?

It's designed to support your foot and take the pressure off the ankle however this will not compromise the amount of dexterity that you required. In fact the scope of your foot isn't limited at all, and because of the pain relief it means you'll experience more freedom than you would do not wearing the support.

Once fitted the core of the Ligament Support will sit above your shoe, ensuring you can continue using your foot as if healthy.

Can I Wear the Ankle Support While Playing Sport?

The BioSkin Ankle Support offers excellent dexterity, meaning that if you want to play sport you can. We would recommend, however, that you only do so if you a mild ankle injury, or mild ongoing ankle pain, rather than a more serious break or ongoing problem.

BioSkin TriLok Ankle Brace

Is the BioSkin Ankle Support Lightweight?

You might be wondering if you can feel the weight of the Ankle Ligament Brace on your ankle while you are walking. This isn't the case as it is extremely light to hold to the point where you won't feel it when it's on your leg. This is ideal for using the Ankle Support across a day without it becoming uncomfortable on your leg.

Is the BioSkin TriLok Support Discreet to Wear?

The TriLok Support is part below your shoe part above it, and if you are wearing shorts or shorter jeans then the top of the support will be visible. However it is a discreet and subtle black colour and very aesthetic, meaning that you won't feel conscious wearing the support.

Is the BioSkin TriLok Waterproof?

The Bioskin TriLok is designed to be washed after use. It reacts well to fresh water, and is suitable for providing support across a range of different water sports. However, we can't guarantee it's effectiveness in salt water as salt water is known to degrade materials.

Is This Appropriate for Drop Foot?

The support offered by this brace is not ideal for drop foot. We would recommend looking at our Foot Drop Supports and AFO category.

After a Brain Tumour many years ago left me much weaker on the the right side of my body, I have been using this brace. The Physio at the time got it for me.
Admittedly it is the most complicated (three parts to it) and I tried another similar product over the last few year which was one piece and had a slimmer profile, however it had several flaws.
Last week I bought a Trilock again and the difference is amazing, I will never switch. It is still slightly tricky getting it on because I can't use my right hand, but that's just me.
I feel much safer with it and wear it every day. I still go to NHS Physio however they don't offer the Trllock, so you have to buy it.

I have used many ankle supports over the years and therefore have quite a lot of experience of these products. This particular support, which arrived in a timely manner, is the real deal and not a toy!
I am happy with it and unlike some other brands have no problem using it with my current shoes.

I broke my ankle (talo-navicular dislocation) 35 years ago and it has given me gipp ever since. I was a bit skeptical but this ankle support has given me new confidence in my ankle and reduced aches and pains after my running. I practiced putting it on half a dozen times and now it is easy and fits well over my sock and in my shoe. It is true that one of the straps has started to fray, but I don't think this affects the integrity of the product. I'm going to buy another one just in case.

The support arrived in good time. Slightly complex instructions but OK to put on. Provides good support to the ankle. My physio was impressed with the quality. Quite expensive though for what it is.

Reduced the pain of my PTTD

Having had PTTD for 2 years and nothing seemingly helping, I heard about the TriLok brace. And it works. I wear it all day apart from when I sleep and I can walk without any pain now. Even when it's off, the pain has significantly reduced. I wear it in the gym too and its helped me get deeper squats and improve there too. Fantastic brace!

I bought this for PTTD and it works well, although a bit more cushioning under the arch would help. Much easier to wear beneath footwear than the Aircast Airlift which is the only alternative, It also enables me to continue doing Pilates.

Gives back full confidence in the strength of my ankle. My expectations were to allow me to start light exercising, but on the first use the support gave me full belief I could push to higher limits without concern. Very impressed.

Like having a new ligament

07 May 2021  |

An MRI scan recently told me I have 2 torn ankle ligaments and a partial tear in another.

I was seriously considering re-construction surgery until this brace was recommend by an orthotist.

It's been amazing, having barely ran in 3 months I'm now back up to full training (40 miles a week) and have been running up and down mountains again - getting ready for a return to competitive Obstacle Course Racing again soon!

I wear it everyday to try and reduce some of the pain I experience. My physio recommended this but it hasn't made a bit of difference. The straps are quite thin so doesnt take long to notice them wearing and is very expensive for what it is.
