Neuroquip Professional Box and Block Test Kit

The Neuroquip Professional Box and Block Test Kit is conveniently housed in a wooden testing box with two compartments. Quick and easy to set up and start testing, the assessment can be used on patients of any age and for a wide range of neurological diagnoses.

Included In the Kit

  • 1 x wooden testing box and divider
  • 150 x wooden blocks (+2 spare blocks)
  • 1 x countdown timer
  • 1 x USB Memory Stick with test instructions, score sheet and research document
  • 1 x zipped canvas case for storing blocks

How the Test Works

The Box and Block Test asks the subject to move as many wooden blocks as possible, one by one, from one compartment of the wooden box to the other in 60 seconds. The subject is first required to take the test with their unaffected upper limb, to establish a standard for comparison. The examiner observes the test in order to view the blocks being transported.

Who Can Take the Test?

The easy-to-understand format of this test means patients of any age can take it. It can be particularly useful in testing children or geriatrics, but it is also used to treat a wide range of neurological diagnoses such as;

  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Stroke
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • Neuromuscular Disorders

Used for Research Purposes

This time-based test has been used since 1957. Neuroquip's kit is derived from the original specifications developed in the 1950s by Buehler & Fuchs and as described by Mathiowetz et al in their key research into normative values (The American Journal of Occupational Therapy: June 1985).It is a popular tool for research into the effectiveness of treatment over time. It was initially used to test children with cerebral palsy and was one of the first clinical assessments to use the hand-grip function as an indication of dexterity.

Easily Transportable With USB Memory Stick for Scores

For researchers or medical staff looking to use the test with a variety of patients, the wooden test box is helpfully packaged within a strong plastic carry-case. The kit also includes a USB memory stick, allowing those administering the test to register and compare historical scores.
