How Does the Oxford Mermaid Bath Lift Work?

The Oxford Mermaid Bath Lift comprises a fixed seat on a column that can be secured in place at either the side or the end of the bath. The user can then sit down in the hoist seat, ready for transferring to and from the bath, allowing them to be lowered into and out of the water as required. Depending on the model type, the hoist can then be operated manually or electrically through a lever (please select your desired option from the drop-down above).

The Oxford Mermaid Bath Lift is suitable for individuals who struggle to get in and out of a bath but who would otherwise be able to enjoy a bath with transfer assistance. It's particularly suited if you still maintain a good deal of independence but would benefit from a little help when using the bath. The seat also includes side handles, helping you to feel safe and supported.

Please note that the Oxford Mermaid Bath Lift has a safe working load of 125kg or 20 stone.

Will My Bath Be Suitable for the Oxford Bath Lift?

The Mermaid Bath Lift is suitable for most bath-side locations. It can be secured either at the end of the bath or on the right- or left-hand side, ensuring it can be used is virtually any environment. If you find that your bath is too high for the hoist, the Oxford Mermaid Bath Lift Column Extension can be purchased to add a height increase of up to 150mm to the hoist.

Please note that there will be enough space for the hoist to successfully turn. If you are fitting the hoist to the end of the bath, a width of 865mm will be required. If you fit your hoist to the side of the bath, a width of 850mm and a length of 430mm will be required. Please see the diagrams below for more information.

Will My Floor Be Suitable for the Oxford Bath Lift?

When purchasing your Oxford Bath Lift, you can choose between floor fixings for a wooden floor or a concrete floor. These have been designed to ensure that you can use the Oxford Bath Lift on either a concrete or wooden floor as safely and as securely as possible. The Oxford Mermaid Hoist has been designed to facilitate safer transfers to and from the bath. As such, it is provided with floor fixings as standard to ensure you can secure it in place beside your bath as required. The seat also includes a lap strap for patient safety, and features side arms for holding onto for additional support.

Should I Choose Manual or Electric Operation?

The Oxford Mermaid Bath Lift can be purchased with either a manual operation or an electric operation, and whether you choose to go for the manual or the electric option is entirely down to your own preference. The manual hoist does not require any electricity and therefore may be financially more beneficial, and the electric option allows for easier operation and manoeuvring of the hoist. Can More Than One Person Use the Mermaid Bath Lift?

How Do I Operate the Oxford Mermaid Bath Lift?

The following instructions are provided for operating your manual or electric Oxford Mermaid Bath Lift:

• Manual Oxford Mermaid Bath Lift:& Raise and lower the seat by turning the winding handle at the top of the column, turning anticlockwise to lift the seat and clockwise to lower it. There are positive stops in the mechanism to ensure the seat does not rotate too far.
• Electric Oxford Mermaid Bath Lift: A hand control is plugged into the top of the column, and pressing the buttons on this remote will raise or lower the hoist accordingly. As with the manual version, there are positive stops to prevent the seat from turning further than necessary.

How Do I Charge My Electric Bath Lift?

If you've chosen the electric Mermaid Bath Lift, then the batteries inside the power pack will need to be charged. A charger is provided with the electric hoist, and it is recommended that you charge the batteries when the hoist is not in use.
