If you frequently suffer from injuries to the knee, cryotherapy can help to reduce discomfort and swelling in the area. The Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff with Automatic Cold Therapy IC Cooler Saver Pack uses the therapeutic benefits of controlled cold compression to minimise swelling and reduce pain. This helps you get back on your feet following an injury or operation.

Please note: This IC cooler unit features an automated motor, unlike the Aircast Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff with Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff Cooler Saver Pack, which solely uses gravity. (See our blog on the differences between the two)

What Are the Benefits of Using Cryotherapy to Treat Injury?

Using cryotherapy to treat injury can produce a number of benefits. These include:

Where Can I Use the Cryo/Cuff Cooler Pack?

The Cryo/Cuff and Cooler Pack is designed for use on the knee. This can include use on and around the knee to ease pain and discomfort.

Does the Cuff Cover the Whole Knee Area?

The cuff is anatomically designed to cover the entire knee, providing maximum cryotherapy to that area. 

What Size Cuff Should I Choose?

The Aircast Knee Cryo/Cuff is available in three different sizes. To find the perfect size cuff for your knee, please measure the circumference of your thigh, 15cm (six inches) above the patella (kneecap) using the image below as your guide.

Once you have this measurement, please refer to the table below and select the correct cuff size using the drop down menu at the top of the page.

How Do I Use the Cuff and IC Cooler?

For information on how to use the cuff, simply follow the steps below: 

Step One: Prepare the Cooler 

Connect the blue tube to the cooler and fill the cooler to the line with water. Add ice and place the insulation disk on top. Close the lid of the cooler and allow up to five minutes for the water to cool.

Step Two: Apply the Cuff

Rest the cuff on the front of the knee and secure using the top strap. Flex the knee slightly and position the cuff so that the knee cap is exposed through the opening and secure using the bottom strap. (See figure 1).

Step Three: Fill the Cuff

Connect the blue tube to the cuff. Raise the cooler no more than fifteen inches above the cuff and allow fifteen seconds for the cuff to fill. (See figure 2).

Place the cooler on a stable surface, the base of the cooler should be level with the cuff. Plug the cooler into a power supply and turn on by connecting the cord to the lid. 

Step Four: Refill Cooler 

To refill after use, unplug the cooler and repeat step one.

How Long Can I Use the Cuff For?

You can use the cuff for up to two hours per session but it is recommended that you leave a period of at least twenty minutes between uses.

How Does the Aircast Automatic Cryo/Cuff Compress?

Once you have plugged your unit in to the mains, you will hear the internal motor start up and power down every thirty seconds. Once attached correctly, your Cryo/Cuff will follow this cycle, providing intermittent compression every thirty or so seconds.

Can I Apply the Cuff Directly onto My Skin?

To avoid risk of skin burn, it is vital that you wrap the skin of the target area with a cloth or bandage or something similar, before using the cuff. 

How Do I Clean the Cuff?

To keep your Cryo/Cuff clean, simply wash the cuff with soap and hot water before rinsing and leaving to air dry. This process can also be used to clean the blue tube and cooler units also.

I have used the Aircast Cooler for a week now following single total knee replacement surgery. The product was delivered quickly, was easy to set up and to use, is effective in cooling the knee to combat swelling and is easier, more efficient and medically safer than using ice packs from the freezer.
The price compares very favourably to the cost of renting a professional machine (about twice the price for a month's rental versus buying the Aircast), with the proviso of the lower quality of the Aircast cuff, cooler and electronic controls compared to an up-market machine.
I am generally very satisfied with this product.

This was purchased to aid recovery from knee surgery and it’s been great.
It’s quick and easy to set and if you at ice packs instead of ice cubes to the water it stays cold for hours.
I’m glad I also went for the pumped version.
Slightly more expensive but worth it in my opinion.

This Cryo cuff and cooler has been amazing. Bought to help my recovery from Total knee replacement and despite my reluctance to spend the money, a week post op it has been amazing. Currently use it 6-8 tines a day. I’ve stays frozen all day and very simple to use. Great for a quick blast to relieve pain or longer to reduce swelling. Would recommend to anyone awaiting surgery or with a long term injury.

Its been giving relief to my painful knee while I wait for a knee replacement op, when I shall carry on using it under guidance from the physiotherapist. I have been using 3 x 500ml bottles of frozen water to cool it as a recommendation from a previous reviewer, great idea saves on ice cubes 😁

Having just undergone a robitically assisted total knee replacement the Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff is a major factor in controlling pain and has significantly reduced swelling. Had I not invested in this device my recovery would have taken far longer. As it is my physo says I am close to halving the expect4ed recovery time.

I purchased this prior to having a total knee replacement and it has been fantastic in helping with the swelling and the pain.
Instead of ice in the bucket, I place two 500ml bottles of frozen water and the cuff stays cold for a number of hours. Easy to then exchange the bottles for frozen bottles when required.

The customer service was excellent when I needed to arrange re-delivery and the price was competitive.

Excellent piece of kit should have invested in one years ago when I first had knee issues. Found the cuff sizing confusing with the overlap in sizes, wish I’d ordered the large cuff for a better wrap.

Easy to use and set up, and empty for the next usage. Simple and works well. With the cuffs that we purchased for knee and ankle therapy a good product and price. I purchased it for after surgery therapy. A knee replacement. Yet to use it. If it is as successful when my wife used it I will be very happy.
