The Space Adventure Phonics Board Game is a new and exciting phonic game specifically designed to give emerging readers help with acquiring early phonic skills, by introducing a competitive game situation and a fun setting to facilitate learning.

How is the Space Adventure Phonics Board Game Played?

Players race to reach the landing stage back on Earth by collecting space rocks. They move around the board in either direction so that they can choose which colour rock to collect each turn. The rules of the game can be adapted to suit different abilities.

What is the Benefit of Playing the Space Adventure Phonics Board Game?

The game is based on the Primary National Strategy Letters and Sounds Phase 4 and offers practice at decoding both phonetically regular words and 'alien' words. This helps children to acquire knowledge of key 'tricky' words from a high frequency list including polysyllabic words and short sentences. There are two sets of cards for each type of word, Set 1 for ccvc and cvcc words, and Set 2 for cccvc and cccvcc words, and the game also reinforces learning from Phase 2 and 3.
