De Quervain's syndrome- also known as De Quervain's Tenosynovitis - affects the tendons located along the thumb side of the wrist. There is no exact cause known for De Quervain's syndrome but any activity that involves repetitive motions with the hands runs the risk of increasing the likelihood of developing the condition, as does being a female between the ages of thirty and fifty. Suffering from rheumatoid arthritis may be another determining factor. The condition causes pain when something is being held, when the wrist turns or if you make a fist. Pain, swelling and restricted movements are all symptoms of De Quervain's syndrome
