DeVilbiss VacuAide Reusable 1200ml Canister

Supplied as standard with a disposable 800ml canister, DeVilbiss VacuAide Suction Machines offer effective and reliable medical suction with a wide range of primary care and hospital applications. This Reusable 1200ml Canister is fully autoclavable, allowing you to keep it sterile between multiple patients as well as store a greater amount of fluid without risk of leakage.

What's Included?

Your purchase of this reusable canister will include:

What Are the Benefits of This Canister?

There are several benefits to this container over the standard 800ml canister supplied with your original suction machine purchase. The first and most obvious benefit is its greater capacity, which helps to avoid leakage or flow-back into the machine – in turn preventing contamination or damage. Another benefit is that because this canister is autoclavable, it can be used safely and hygienically with multiple patients, ultimately reducing running costs and waste.

What Else Do I Need?

Besides the suction machine itself, the only other component you will need is the 6ft Patient Tubing and possibly a yankauer. Everything else needed to run the device is supplied in this kit.

Which Suction Machines Can This Canister Be Used With?

This canister is designed for use with either of the two main models of DeVilbiss VacuAide Suction Machine:

What Are the Key Differences Between the DeVilbiss VacuAide 7305 and 7314?

The grey (7305) and blue (7314) models of VacuAide are of similar weights, sizes and have the same maximum level of suction, but they vary significantly in other factors. The blue model operates much more quietly than the grey model, features a more precise pressure gauge and dial and can drop down to 50mmHg suction – allowing it to be used in neonatal application. The blue unit also comes with a more discreet bag, which allows it to be operated in public without the need to reveal the device.

What Are the Elbow Connector and Filter?

The elbow connector and filter are both necessary components to maintain the hygiene of your device and keep it in working order for as long as possible. While the smaller disposable canister has moved onto an integrated system, this 1200ml disposable canister still requires the separate connector and filter.

Which Options Are Available?

This canister kit can either be bought on its own or in a pack of six. Buying the pack of six allows us to supply the canister at better value.

Please select your preference from the drop-down menu at the top of this page.

Can This Canister Be Sterilised?

This canister can be safely sterilised in an autoclave. This allows you to maintain hygiene between patients, and continue using the canister without risking cross-contamination. Ultimately, it can save you significant costs by radically reducing the need to replace the canister.

How Do the Filters Work?

The hydrophobic filters are designed to prevent fluids or bacteria from entering the internals of your suction machine. If fluid comes into contact with the filter, it will swell up and block the device. This helps to protect the practitioner and reduce the risk of cross-contamination between patients, as well as make sure the device does not become damaged or faulty.

How Often Does the Filter Need to Be Changed?

Since the filters are designed to keep bacteria from contaminating or damaging your device it is vital that you change them regularly. They should be changed in any of the following situations:

  1. If they become wet (in which case they will immediately close-up)
  2. In between patients/ when disposing of a canister
  3. Whenever they swell up and block the tube

If the device is being used for the same patient one of these tends to occur approximately every six weeks, but can vary significantly depending on use.

How Often Do the Other Components Need to Be Changed?

For the best levels of hygiene and performance, and to keep your device safe, you should aim to replace all the components other than the canister about as often as the filter, and certainly between each patient. The canister itself can be sterilised in an autoclave and will not need replacing unless it becomes damaged.

How Do I Change the Filter?

The filter is easy to change. Simply remove the current filter and elbow tube from the top of the canister and dispose of them. When this has been done you need to plug a new elbow connector into the canister and plug the filter in between that elbow connector and the device's suction tube.

Can I Wash the Filter?

No, the filters are hydrophobic and will swell up in contact with water. This means that attempting to wash a filter will cause it to swell up and block the pipe.

Can I Wash the Canister, Elbow Connector or Patient Tubing?

All three of these components can be washed in warm soapy water during single patient use to maintain hygiene. It is important, however, that the consumable items are disposed of between patients and that the Reusable Canister is sterilised in an autoclave.

Are There Any Other Spare or Replacement Parts Available?
