Who Can Use This Cushion?
This is an ideal everyday wheelchair cushion for children up to a high risk of pressure sore development, providing excellent stability and comfort. At 6.25cm thick and 450g - 900g in weight, this cushion is suitable for all activities, and features a maximum user weight of 56.7kg.
How Does This Cushion Provide Support and Comfort?
To provide superior comfort, this cushion consists of a soft top layer of flexible StimuLite honeycomb, fused to a firmer bottom layer for versatile, complex support that caters to all needs. Supplying the positioning and support are adductors, abductors and an ischial dish, which comfortably position the child, while the soft honeycomb cells hold them securely in place. By providing optimum pressure relief, stability, shear force reduction and ventilation, this exceptionally comfortable cushion helps protect children's skin against breakdown.
Hygienic and Machine Washable
Hygiene is of the utmost importance in a pressure relief wheelchair cushion, as the user can potentially spend long stretches of time sitting on it. This was heavily considered in the cushion's design, as it is manufactured with naturally antibacterial and antifungal material. Allergen-free, both the cushion and cover are machine washable with the use of a laundry bag, making them both hygienic and safe.
Is This Cushion Supplied with a Cover?
Yes, all StimuLite cushions are supplied with a comfortable cover as standard. This cover is made with breathable, two-way stretch fabric that is designed to move with the skin to reduce the shear and friction forces that can exacerbate pressure sore risk. This knitted fabric cover is antimicrobial, antifungal, and machine washable to ensure a high level of hygiene is maintained.
How Does StimuLite Honeycomb Work?
StimuLite cushions are made with a soft, flexible form of aerospace honeycomb that has 'memory', is lightweight, and distributes weight evenly along its surface. Its cellular matrix consists of alternating thick and thin walled cells that flex when compressed to relieve pressure. When a user sits on a StimuLite cushion, the compressed cells radiate outwards to surround and support the anatomy, self-adjusting to each individual and providing excellent stability.
How Breathable Are StimuLite Cushions?
StimuLite honeycomb features a unique ventilation system consisting of tiny perforations in the cell walls, allowing air to circulate both horizontally and vertically. This creates an ideal microclimate for long-term sitting comfort, helping to reduce sweat and moisture to minimise shear and friction forces on the skin. StimuLite has a proven track record among wheelchair users, where performance is critical to preventing life-threatening skin breakdown.
Maceration Resistance
StimuLite honeycomb is perforated, enabling air to circulate and moisture to evaporate, thus helping to maintain skin integrity. The 'footprint' of the honeycomb cells on the user's skin, along with their flexing action, help to stimulate blood flow and enhance circulation.
Pressure Relief and Shear Reduction
StimuLite honeycomb works to relieve pressure by distributing it away from hot spots. Due to this, bony protuberances experience the same pressure as the surrounding anatomy, eliminating potential problem areas. The honeycomb conforms to body shape, distributes weight evenly, and stabilises the user in any position. The cells align themselves with the body to flex and unflex, moving with the skin and reducing dangerous shearing forces.
What If I Require More Back Support?
When adjusting to any new wheelchair cushion, you may find that your chair's back support feels slightly different, and you may require the use of an additional back support for maximum comfort.
