Babypod 20 Infant Transportation System

The Babypod 20 Infant Transportation System delivers an extra-safe, high-tech infant transport device to meet the time-critical challenges and treatment requirements usually associated with critically ill babies. A result of two years of development between Advanced Healthcare Technology and Williams Advanced Engineering, the Babypod features a strong carbon fibre outer shell, shock absorbent foam, a vacuum mattress, stretcher fixing straps, an advanced CO2 evacuation system, and a state-of-the-art viewing lid to meet all of your transport needs.

What Is the Babypod 20 Infant Transportation System?

The Babypod 20 Infant Transportation System was developed to fulfil a requirement for a safety-focused and cost-efficient solution for when a full transport incubator is not required. Building on the success of its predecessor, the Babypod II, this new and improved version provides an even lighter, stronger and safer way to transport small infants and newborns.

What's Included with the Babypod 20 Infant Transportation System?

The Babypod 20 Infant Transportation System includes:

  • 1 x Babypod 20 infant transport device
  • 1 x Vacuum mattress
  • 1 x Infant positioning strap set (for single use)
  • 1 x Shock-absorbent foam set
  • 1 x 9kN Stretcher fixing strap set
  • 1 x Viewing lid
  • 1 x Protective storage bag
  • 1 x Vacuum pump

Who Can Use the Babypod 20 System?

Babypod 20 is designed to safely convey a paediatric patient to or from a medical facility, between facilities or between departments within a single medical facility. Baby Pod 20 is designed to provide safe conveyance of a patient whose weight does not exceed 17.5lbs (8 kg). To learn about how to use the Babypod 20, please see the instruction manual below:

When Can the Babypod 20 Be Used?

The Babypod 20 System is exceptionally versatile, and ideal for a range of settings. It can be used in:

  • Hospital transfers
  • Relief operations
  • Emergency midwifery call-outs
  • Neonatal revival cases
  • Ambulance, car or air transfers

How Is the Babypod 20 Different from Babypod II?

The new Babypod 20 incorporates new technological developments and additional user-requested features. Following on from its successful predecessor, the Babypod II, the most striking difference between the two is the completely re-engineered lid that allows easy access even in confined spaces. The viewing area in the Babypod 20 is larger and clearer than ever before, giving you better visibility of the patient, particularly in restricted environments such as the interior of rotary or fixed wing aircraft.

Can the New Babypod 20 Be Trusted?

The Babypod 20 Infant Transportation System is CE and FDA approved, CEN compliant, and dynamically crash-tested to BS EN 1789. It also meets ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 13485:2016 standards. Moreover, the Babypod 20 was even featured on BBC Business, as a high-tech carrier for critically ill new-born babies.

What Makes the Babypod 20 Ideal for Air Transport?

Due to the nature of the Babypod being used increasingly for air transport, the entire front section of the Babypod 20 viewing lid now slides backwards over the rear section, giving unhindered access to the upper torso and head of the infant patient without increasing the height or width of the Babypod whatsoever. Moreover, the entire lid then folds backwards over the rear of the pod, allowing access to the entire patient compartment with no obstructions from either side of the unit.

What Is the Interior Made From?

The interior of this new and improved Babypod features shock-absorbent foam, with removable, washable and autoclavable cover that can be securely fastened directly to the inside of the carbon fibre shell. It also features an upgraded vacuum mattress, allowing the infant position strapping to pass directly through the mattress outer foil to better secure the mattress around the patient, resulting in the snuggest cocoon possible.

How Does the CO2 Evacuation System Work?

One of the many improved features of the Babypod 20 is the CO2 evacuation system. A medical air supply can be attached to the inlet on the front of the Babypod, which then draws any carbon dioxide that may have layered at the base of the unit out of an exit valve on the underside of the shell. This in turn draws clean ambient air into the patient compartment via the patient access port in the viewing lid.

How Does the New Strapping System Work?

The new strapping system features high-tensile webbing typically found in motor sports, and a metal quick-connect buckle used in aviation, making this the most secure strapping system ever featured on a Babypod model. This system withstands up to 9kN of force, exceeding the current European ambulance specifications.

  • Using vacuum mattress and patient-positioning safety straps
  • Needs no electricity, as it maintains temperature by use of TransWarmer heat pads
