M+D Adjustable Forearm Crutch Cane Alternative (Black)

Many of those who use a cane or walking stick on a daily basis find it to be uncomfortable, unsupportive or even painful, as pressure from the handles can put constant strain on the hands and wrists. The M+D Adjustable Forearm Crutch Cane Alternative is an ideal solution, as it provides all of the convenience of a cane while distributing pressure evenly across the forearm and elbow, making it ideal for anyone with arthritis, weak wrists or any sort of pain while using a cane.

The M+D Cane Alternative is supplied for either the left or right arm in one size to fit everyone from 4'11" - 6'8" (149 - 203cm). This cane is supplied in black, but is also available in a white version.

How Does the M+D Forearm Cane Work?

Improving on the archaic design of standard forearm and axillary crutches, the M+D Crutch Cane Alternative distributes the user's weight throughout the forearm and elbow. This improves comfort by eliminating the hand and wrist pain caused by most walking sticks and crutches. Incorporating a lockable hinged arm cradle, flexible armbands and shock-absorbing feet, the M+D Cane Alternative is designed to remain comfortable throughout the day, and work for you in your daily life.

Why Use a Forearm Crutch Instead of a Cane?

Cane users would choose a cane over a traditional pair of forearm crutches for convenience and versatility, as most crutches won't allow you the use of your hands when you need them. By incorporating a swing-away handle and hinged arm cradle, you can let go of the support and reach with your hand freely, all while enjoying the enhanced comfort and reduced wrist pain that the M+D Crutch provides.

Watch the short video below for a demonstration of some of the ways the M+D Crutch Cane Alternative can improve on your current walking stick or cane.

Can I Buy a Pair of M+D Adjustable Crutches?

Yes, while great as a single support, these crutches are also ideal when used as a pair to replace traditional axillary or forearm crutches. You can purchase a pair of either white or black crutches on our M+D Adjustable Forearm Crutches (Pair) product page.

Who Can Use the M+D Forearm Walking Stick?

This alternative to a walking stick can be used by virtually anyone who can use regular crutches, and even some who can't! Those who find a regular walking stick or cane too painful or stressful on their wrists and hands will find this crutch much more comfortable, which increases patient compliance and makes getting around a whole lot easier.

Ideal for Arthritis, Weak Wrists and More!

The M+D Walking Stick Alternative is especially suited to people with conditions such as arthritis or Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which make it very uncomfortable to use standard crutches. By distributing pressure across the forearm, pain is lessened without inhibiting movement. Some other conditions this walking aid is ideal for include:

  • Elbow pain
  • Weak wrists
  • Wrist sprains or fractures
  • Rheumatism

Special Features of the M+D Adjustable Cane Alternative

This ergonomic walking stick alternative is packed with innovative features to make it the most comfortable and convenient option for your daily life, which can be seen in the diagram below. While the white version is displayed in this diagram, it is functionally identical to the black version. Some of the main features include:

  • Flexible Arm Band: Easy to get in and out of, this arm band will conform to the shape of the user's arm for a firm and secure fit
  • Lockable Hinged Arm Support: Designed to spread the weight evenly along your arm, the arm cradle can actually be unlocked to allow for easy reaching and other arm movements throughout your day
  • Rotating Handle: With the touch of the blue button on the end of the handle, it will swing down to allow full access for things like using keys, turning handles or shaking hands
  • Shock Absorbing Ferrule: This ferrule, or walking stick foot, will cushion the impact with the ground, providing minimal shock to your forearms with each step

M+D Comfortable Forearm Crutch

Will This Walking Stick Fit Me?

The M+D Crutch is easily adjustable to fit most users, and suits anyone from 149 - 203cm (4'11" - 6'8") in height. This allows the cane to fit nearly anyone, and can be adjusted to fit multiple users.

Is the M+D Cane Alternative Lightweight?

Yes, this walking aid is very lightweight, weighing in at just 1.3kg. This light weight allows it to be used by people of all ages and strengths, and will increase patient compliance by allowing it to be used for each and every errand throughout the day.

How Much More Comfortable Are M+D Crutches Than Standard Crutches?

M+D Crutches don't just claim to be the most comfortable crutches on the market – they've actually done the research to back it up. In a survey of crutch users who have tried the M+D Crutches to replace their regular ones, M+D found a 373% improvement in reported pain to the hands and wrists, as well as a 124% improvement in pain to the forearms and elbows and a 67% improvement to shoulder pain. These numbers speak for themselves, and demonstrate the power of this innovative design!

How Do I Set Up the M+D Crutch?

This M+D Forearm Cane Alternative is supplied with everything you need to get started right away, and all you need to complete the setup process is a coin! Watch the video below for step-by-step instructions on how to set your crutch up and ensure it is properly fitted to you for maximum comfort:

How Do I Walk with the M+D Adjustable Forearm Crutch?

Walking with the M+D Crutch Cane Alternative is simple and intuitive, but it may take a few minutes to get used to the new crutch design. While the video below focuses on how to use the M+D Crutches as a pair, it can provide some useful tips for how to use your Forearm Crutch Cane Alternative as a single support as well.

How Do I Adjust the M+D Crutch?

As explained in the setup video above, all adjustments to these crutches can be made with the touch of a button, or with a coin or screwdriver. The adjustments are designed to be made with a coin, making it simple to make changes to your crutches – even when you're out and about!

How Do I Rotate the Handle?

Allowing you full freedom of movement with your hands, the handle of the M+D Crutch can be easily rotated away. To rotate, simply push the button on the end of the handle. At this point, the handle will become loose, and you can simply let go as the handle swivels away to leave your hand free.

How Do I Detach the Armrest?

The armrest can be allowed to swivel upwards by pressing the unlock button beside the rest. This will allow you to reach out and grab items that other forearm crutches would block. To re-lock the armrests, simply press in the button on the other side of the rest.

Is This Cane Alternative Suitable for Hospital Use?

Yes, the M+D Forearm Crutch is ideal for hospital use, and not only because it is easier and more comfortable to use. The armrest is antimicrobial and easy to wipe down, allowing it to be safely disinfected in between use by multiple patients.
