Monday, 25 October 2010  |  Paul

Incontinence is an extremely common problem that is thought to affect about three million people in the UK. Urinary incontinence can affect anyone however it is much more common in older people and is far more common in women than in men. Health and Care stock a wide range of incontinence care products including incontinence underwearincontinence pads and incontinence bedding.

Urinary incontinence is the most common form of incontinence and the two main types or urinary incontinence are Stress Incontinence and Urge Incontinence. Stress incontinence is when the pelvic floor muscles are too weak to prevent urination and Urge Incontinence is thought to occur as a result of incorrect signals being sent between the brain and the bladder. It is also possible to have a combination of both Stress Incontinence and Urge Incontinence.

Health and Care’s Incontinence Care range provides products for urinary incontinence and faecal incontinence for adults and children. Incontinence pads are good for dealing with both urinary and faecal incontinence. Incontinence pads are available in a range of sizes and absorbencies and can be worn inside normal underwear or inside incontinence pouch pants. Incontinence pads are generally available in large pack sizes ensuring value for money, convenience and peace of mid. Disposable incontinence pads can be used by males, females and children and some can absorb as much as 700ml.

For help with incontinence Health and Care also stock a range of incontinence underwear. There are a number of different types of incontinence underwear for men, women and children including incontinence pants, incontinence pouch pants and waterproof incontinence pants. Incontinence pants and incontinence briefs are available in different size similar to normal underwear. This type of incontinence underwear is suitable for light to medium incontinence and many come with a removable and washable insert pad. These incontinence briefs also come with varying levels of absorbency and can be washed and reused up to 200 times.

TheFemale Absorbent Briefs are available with varying levels of absorbency and come with an internal washable pad. The Ladies Washable Bedtime Pants are suitable for heavy incontinence and for night-time protection. These ladies washable incontinence pants include an inner waterproof liner and are available in two colours. Disposable incontinence briefs are generally available in packs and the ladies incontinence stretch pants are stretch net pant that holds the incontinence pad firmly in place.

In many cases of incontinence many people also need to protect their bed. Incontinence bedding is available in a range of sizes and absorbencies to suit any requirement. Bed pads can be attached to the mattress with useful tuck in flaps to keep the bed pad in place. The Quick Dry Bed Pad is highly absorbent and keeps the sleeper dry. Absorbent bedding is especially important in cases of infant and adult incontinence as the bed pads helps to prevent soreness and infection. Disposable bed protectors are also suitable for persistent bed wetting problems in children and adults. Disposable bed pads are available in single bed pads, double bed pads and also king size bed pads. For chairs there is an incontinence chair pad which is machine washable and holds approximately 1000ml of liquid. This machine washable chair protector provides peace of mind and keeps the user comfortable and dry.
