Alternatives to the Aircast A60 Ankle Brace
Tuesday, 17 December 2019
The Aircast A60 Ankle Brace is one of our most popular ankle supports, but we know that your ankles are as unique as you are, and that the A60 may not always be the right choice for you. If you've tried the Aircast A60 and have decided that it's not a good fit for your needs, then our list of alternative ankle braces may be able to help.
As the A60 support is designed to prevent rollover and ankle sprains, we've sorted through our range of supports for sprained ankles to put together this list of braces that offer the same level of support and comfort as the Aircast. Similarly, the following braces can also be worn in almost any type off trainer or shoe, making them ideal for getting back on your feet after an injury.
Not the Right Size?
Donjoy Strapping Elastic Ankle Support
If you're keen to stick with the popular Donjoy brand, then the Donjoy Strapping Elastic Ankle Support is a good choice. Like the Aircast A60, it can be worn during sports to prevent injury, and the slim design ensures it can fit comfortably under shoes and socks.
Where the Donjoy Stapping Brace differs is the sizing. Unlike the A60, which is based on UK shoe sizing, the Donjoy Strapping Brace is sized to the circumference of your ankle. This helps to ensure the best possible fit, and is available in a range of sizes catering for ankle circumferences from 19cm to 30cm.
Alternative for: Sizing. It's based on ankle circumference and may provide a better fit.
Not the Right Stabilisation?
BioSkin TriLok Ankle Ligaments Support
Stabilisation is key both during and after recovery of an ankle sprain, and the BioSkin TriLok Ankle Ligaments Support provides this without hindering your ability to get back on your feet. It works by controlling the motion of the forefoot to provide you with correct positioning.
If you find the plastic stabiliser in the Aircast A60 to be uncomfortable, then the strapping system of the BioSkin TriLok is worth a try. It controls the inversion and eversion of the ankle, helping to take the pressure of your ankle ligaments to reduce any ongoing pain.
Alternative for: Stability. It stabilises using a strap rather than a plastic stabiliser.
Not Supportive Enough?
Thuasne Malleo Dynastab Boa Ankle Brace
If you've reached the stage in your recovery where you're back on your feet, the Thuasne Malleo Dynastab Boa Ankle Brace can support your ankle to prevent further injury. Like the A60, it's lightweight and quick to put on, and is particularly suited to ankle rollover prevention and getting back into sports.
The difference with the Malleo Dynastab Boa is the inclusion of the extra straps and the flexible metallic splint. This turns the level of support provided up a notch, providing you with peace of mind whether you're on the pitch of on the court that your ankle is well supported.
Alternative for: Support. With additional straps and a flexible metallic splint, your ankle will receive maximum support when on the go.
Not Enough Compression?
MedSpec ASO Ankle Stabiliser Brace
Gentle compression helps to soothe pain and aid in recovery, and the MedSpec ASO Ankle Stabiliser Brace features a lace structure designed to provide your ankle with adjustable compression. All you need to do is pull the laces – no need to worry about knots or bows! – and tighten them at the designed level of compression.
Like the A60, the discreet design of the MedSpec ASO is ideal for wearing during sports, and it is just as breathable to keep your ankle feeling fresh and comfortable. Providing a little more compression, it can help to reduce any existing pain while preventing further injury.
Alternative for: Compression. The lace system allows you to control the level of compression provided to ease any pain.
Not the Right Injury?
Bauerfeind MalleoTrain Plus Ankle Support
The Bauerfeind MalleoTrain Plus Ankle Support is specifically designed to help prevent ankle twisting. If you're prone to ankle injuries but find that you're more at risk of twisting your ankle rather than rolling over it, then the MalleoTrain Plus may provide you with more support than the A60 for this type of injury.
The MalleoTrain Plus provides the same level of support as the A60, with a breathable construction and slim design. As it features a three-level strapping system, it stabilises the joint in all directions, reducing the risk of you twisting your ankle around, ideal for prevention.
Alternative for: Different types of injury. Both braces protect against sprains, but where the A60 specialises in rollover prevention the MalleonTrain Plus helps with reducing risks of ankle twisting.
