How Does the Oxford Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat Work?

The Oxford Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat comprises a commode-style seat on a wheeled base to allow for easier transfers to the bath or to the side of the pool. Once ready for transferring, the chair can be unclipped from the base and attached to the hoist column.

With the Ranger seat securely connected to the hoist column, the user can sit comfortably for lowering into and out of the bath as required. Depending on the model type, the hoist can then be operated manually or electrically through a lever (please select your desired option from the drop-down above).

Who Can Use the Oxford Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat?

The Oxford Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat is suitable for individuals who struggle to get in and out of a bath but who would otherwise be able to enjoy a bath with transfer assistance. It's particularly suited if you still maintain a good deal of independence and can sit upright comfortably but would benefit from a little help when using the bath. The seat also includes side handles, helping you to feel safe and supported.

Please note that the Oxford Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat has a safe working load of 125kg or 20 stone.

How Can I Use the Ranger Commode and Transfer Seat at the Pool?

In addition to providing reliable transfer to and from the bath, the Ranger Commode and Transfer Seat is ideal for use as transport around a swimming pool. It is particularly useful when used alongside the Oxford Dipper Pool Hoist (sold separately), providing wheeled transfer to and from the Dipper Pool Hoist.

How Can Carers Benefit from the Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat?

In addition to improving the bathing experience for the user, the Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat also helps to reduce the strain on a carer by eliminating the need for physical exertion when assisting a loved one or patient with bath transfers. Will My Bath Be Suitable for the Oxford Transporter Seat?

The Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat is suitable for most bath-side locations. It can be secured either at the end of the bath or on the right- or left-hand side, ensuring it can be used is virtually any environment. If you find that your bath is too high for the hoist, the Oxford Mermaid Column Extension can be purchased to add a height increase of up to 150mm to the hoist.

Please note that there must be enough space for the hoist to successfully turn. If you are fitting the hoist to the end of the bath, a width of 890mm will be required. If you fit your hoist to the side of the bath, a width of 810mm and a length of 430mm will be required. Please see the diagrams below for more information.

Will My Floor Be Suitable for the Oxford Transporter Seat?

When purchasing your Oxford Transporter Seat, you can choose between floor fixings for a wooden floor or a concrete floor. These have been designed to ensure that you can use the Oxford Transporter Seat on either a concrete or wooden floor as safely and as securely as possible. The Oxford Ranger system has been designed to facilitate safer transfers to and from the bath. As such, it is provided with floor fixings as standard to ensure you can secure the column in place beside your bath as required. The seat also includes a lap strap for patient safety, and features side arms for holding onto for additional support.

Should I Choose Manual or Electric Operation?

The Oxford Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat can be purchased with either a manual operation or an electric operation, and whether you choose to go for the manual or the electric option is entirely down to your own preference. The manual hoist does not require any electricity and therefore may be financially more beneficial, and the electric option allows for easier operation and manoeuvring of the hoist. Can More Than One Person Use the Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat?

The Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat is suitable for use by multiple people. This makes it ideal for use in care homes or in households where more than one person requires assistance with transferring to and from the bath. How Do I Operate the Oxford Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat?

The following instructions are provided for operating your manual or electric Oxford Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat:

• Manual Oxford Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat: Raise and lower the seat by turning the winding handle at the top of the column, turning anticlockwise to lift the seat and clockwise to lower it. There are positive stops in the mechanism to ensure the seat does not rotate too far.
• Electric Oxford Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat: A hand control is plugged into the top of the column, and pressing the buttons on this remote will raise or lower the hoist accordingly. As with the manual version, there are positive stops to prevent the seat from turning further than necessary.

How Do I Charge My Electric Bath Lift?

If you've chosen the electric Ranger Commode and Transporter Seat, then the batteries inside the power pack will need to be charged. A charger is provided with the electric hoist, and it is recommended that you charge the batteries when the hoist is not in use. If your existing charger is lost or broken, a spare Oxford Mermaid Charger can be purchased to ensure your bath hoist can remain in reliable working order.
