Indications of the Progressive Splint

The Progressive Splint is suitable for a range of conditions affecting either the knee or the elbow. It can be used to treat unexpected conditions such as mild to moderate elbow or knee spasticity that can occur as a result of a cerebrovascular accident (CVA). It positions the limb comfortably, supporting it securely while gently increasing the range of motion.

It is also suitable for contractures that result from ongoing and progressive conditions such as arthritis, dementia, Parkinson's disease, osteoporosis, and osteoarthritis.

Benefits of the Progressive Splint

Made with a soft foam sherpa splint base, the Progressive Elbow/Knee Splint decreases the risk of skin breakdown. This in turn improves the comfort of the splint, helping to protect the injured or affected area.

The splint can also be hand washed and air dried in between use, making it suitable for frequent or continuous use where support may be required on a more ongoing basis.

Sizing of the Progressive Splint

The Rolyan Progressive Elbow/Knee Splint can be worn on either the right or the left limb, and is available in a choice of five sizes to ensure the best possible fit is provided. To determine the size required, measure the circumference either 5cm above the elbow or 10cm above the knee, depending on where the splint is required. At least 5cm of clearance from the armpit or groin is necessary.

The cuffs of the splint must be long enough to support two-thirds of the limb, and the splint construction allows a trimming length of approximately 2.5cm. Please consult the table below to find the size required, which can be then be selected from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. The proximal cuff length refers to the narrow portion of the cuff, to be located in the armpit or groin region.

Size Proximal Cuff Length
Extra Small Up to 27cm 9.2cm
Small 27 - 38cm 10.2cm
Medium 39 - 44cm 14.3cm
Large 45 - 50cm 16.2cm
Extra Large 51 - 56cm 20.6cm
