Product Details

Instep II Orthotics

The Instep II Orthotics are designed to protect the paediatric plano-valgus foot and feature a semi-rigid shell contoured to provide natural anatomical support, alongside a cushioned lining that enhances protection of the soft tissues.

The Instep II Orthotics offer protection and stability to the rear and mid foot in one orthotic device. The detailed anatomical contouring provides significant heel cupping and support to an unstable mid tarsal joint complex that often accounts for disabling symptoms of growing foot.

We would recommend that the Instep II Orthotics are fitted by a qualified healthcare professional.

Features:

  • Forefoot extension to prevent sore spots
  • High medial cupping to support navicular
  • Polypropylene heel cupping for stability
  • Soft lining to protect soft tissues
  • High lateral cupping to resist forefoot abduction

Indications for use:

  • Unstable calcaneo-valgus
  • Biomechanical instability of the paediatric foot

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can Instep be heat moulded?

The Instep orthosis can be heat moulded to provide a greater customised fit. However, care should be taken not to heat damage the top cover cloth or lose the structural integrity of the device.

What wearing in period is required?

Insteps should be worn initially for 1-2 hours a day and then gradually increased. Most patients are completely comfortable within 4-6 weeks.

How long will they last?

The length of time an orthosis lasts can vary between patients and depends upon patient age, weight and activity level. However, in the case of children regular checks should be made to monitor growth of the foot  to ensure the correct fitting of both the orthoses and the shoes.

Can Instep be used in different shoes?

Yes, although some shoes will be more suitable than others. It is recommended that shoes have firm, deep heel cups, adjustable fastenings and retain flexibility across the forefoot.

Can they be cleaned?

Instep should be cleaned regularly in order to prolong the product life expectancy. We would recommend to gently sponge them with warm, soapy water and dry with a paper towel. Do not soak or dry artificially.

Bought these for my daughter who has hemiplegia and her ankle was beginning to roll in slightly. Therapist suggested orthotic boots which she has had in the past but they are too restrictive and prevented her from running etc. These are very supportive and do the trick! Fitted in normal shoes also!!
