Top 5 Ankle Supports

It will soon be the season for slipping and tripping. In pre-eminence of this I will be endeavouring to inform you as best I can on the pros and cons of some of the most popular ankle braces we have – because obviously some of you will be tripping over and/or twisting some ankles. Here are my favourite popular braces to keep that ankle nice and supported.

5. Aircast Airsport Ankle Brace The Airsport features a unique toe first ‘step in’ design where the toes are inserted into the back of the brace with automatic heel adjustment making this clever as well as easy to put on. The Airsport Ankle Brace incorporates air cell technology as well as ATF crossing braces to make it an ideal preventative brace.

4. Mueller ATF2 Ankle Brace This is also known as the ‘Football Brace’ and is designed to support sprained ankles. This Football Ankle Brace features a patented ankle strap system that gives extra protection against the ankle ‘rolling’ over making it popular for sporting use but just as good if you have sprained your ankle.

3. Donjoy Surround Gel Ankle Brace This is a low profile ankle brace that will comfortably fit inside your shoe and features two rigid panels either side of the ankle, preventing it from taking any damaging lateral motion making it especially good for use after surgery for example. The gel inside lining also helps cool and reduce any swelling.

2. Aircast A60 Ankle Support One of the most versatile ankle supports here, the A60 Ankle Brace is also the most popular brace - no doubt helped by the fact it’s Andy Murray’s choice of ankle brace. It’s not just celebrity endorsement that makes the A60 Ankle Support great though. It is a superior brace when it comes to preventing rollover, and thereby preventing strains, with a 60 degree moulded splints either side of the ankle and a winning combination of comfort and effectiveness.

1. Bauerfeind CaligaLoc Akle Support The ultimate in ankle braces has to be the Bauerfeind. This ankle brace offers total support round the clock against unexpected strain, post-operative use, after injury as well as chronic instabilities and can be worn inside the shoe and can be reshaped thermoplastically. This is therefore the best one to go for if you are worried about your ankles this winter and don’t want to take any chances!
